Now, I'm not sure what the greatest thing was before sliced bread, but I know this: Today, Sonos is the greatest thing ever. As soon as I heard about the Sonos Digital Music System, I realized three things:
Essentially, Sonos is a way of listening to your digital music, anywhere in (or around) your house, and controlling it all from the palm of your hand.
This controller is the real brain of the system, and drives the ZonePlayers which perform the actual playback. There are two models of ZonePlayer. The ZP120 has a built-in 55 Watt amplifier, suitable for small-to-medium sized rooms, while its little brother, the ZP90 lacks the amp and is designed to connect to the amplifier in your home entertainment system.
Now, the best part: All of these devices connect to each other on their own wireless SonosNet. It's brilliant! This means installation is a breeze since there are no wires to run throughout your house. Just one ZonePlayer has to be wired into your DHCP router in order to obtain a valid IP address and faciitiate software updates. If your router is located in your basement, a closet, or somewhere else you don't need to stream music, just add a ZoneBridge instead of a ZonePlayer in that location.
