My love-hate relationship with Drupal continues. Really neither love nor hate, just a sort of mild loathing. I've never really been thrilled with Drupal, but it's a fast framework. Anyway, the latest upgrade (7.82) dredged up more loathing. The Garland theme wasn't rendering properly, maybe due to a permission issue or missing files that I forgot to restore after the upgrade. But really? I also manage a WordPress site (don't get me started), and after a rocky beginning and all manner of security issues, the site has settled down and remains calm. The core and critical plugins are automatically updated. Brute force attacks are gracefully blocked (and I'm notified). But I just WANT Drupal to work.
In any case, After switching to another theme for a while and switching back, everything seems to be ok for now. Unfortunately, Drupal 9 requires MySQL server 5.7.8, and I'm only on 5.6. And for whatever reason, the end-of-support date for Drupal 8 is a year earlier than Drupal 7, so I guess I'll be revisiting this topic in 2022. Considering the focus of this blog, perhaps its time to move to one of the static markup language developer frameworks. Hmmm... Might be time to make a list of requirements.
